5 Common Mistakes Affiliates Make

by John Neyman

Avoiding some of the common mistakes made by affiliate marketers should quickly and easily improve your chances of making affiliate sales. Here are five of the top mistakes:

Common Mistake #1: Not researching the affiliate program before your start promoting it – it really is amazing just how many affiliates grab the first affiliate program that comes along or signup simply because it has a high commission rate or promote it because every other marketer is also promoting it. If the program does not complement the overall theme of your site, you may find it difficult to convince your subscribers to purchase the product if it does not have anything to do with the area you are targeting.

Common Mistake #2: Not using your signature file correctly – many affiliates will add a signature file to all of their out-going email messages and message board posts that is totally inappropriate. Twenty lines of text full of affiliate links, is not considered a signature file – it’s usually considered ‘spam.’ Try keeping your signature file under five lines with an attention grabbing or intriguing first line.

Common Mistake #3: Not writing your own ad copy – there’s nothing worse than seeing the same advert all over the Net or in an email message from ten different marketers. How much perceived value will your message have when it arrives and the reader is seeing it for the tenth time? Take the time to tweak the ad to suit your target area and readership before sending it out. Personalize it; make the ad your own.

Common Mistake #4: Not paying for your own domain name and hosting account – yuck, nobody wants to visit a site that looks like www.somefreeserver.com/thisavenue/overhere/mysite.html with a contact email address of bobsnetbiz@somefreeemail.com. It’s very unprofessional and suggests to your subscribers that you haven’t made any money on-line because you don’t know what you’re doing and are too stingy to spend any money on setting up your business properly. $8.95 a year for a domain name at GoDaddy.com and around $4 per month for a small hosting account won’t break the bank; it may just help to add to the bank in the long run.

Common Mistake #5: Not capturing your leads before you send them through to the affiliate product site – if you can actually get someone to click on one of your affiliate links and they leave the product site without purchasing, what have you gained? Nothing! Nothing that is, except the expense and/or time to get that one click-through in the first place. Set up a squeeze page so you can capture your lead’s email address before you send them onto the product site. That way, if they don’t buy, you can follow up with them later and try again (and again and again and again). Priceless!

Basic website security measures

by John Neyman

With more people setting up their own home based, online business every day, the amount of vulnerable web sites is increasing at an alarming pace. And the blame for this lies mostly within the Internet Marketing community itself. Why? Using the powerful techniques of persuasion at their disposal, many so-called Internet Marketing Gurus lure people into setting up their own online business by providing them with ready-made, plug and play web sites that contain basic security flaws. Do not forget that most of these sites are made by marketers, not programmers! And the consequences for you can be disastrous…

One of the most common vulnerabilities – and paradoxically the most easily cured – is to ensure that each directory on your site contains an index file. By default, web browsers, when directed to a directory look first of all for a file named index. This could be followed by a variety of extensions such as .html, .htm, .shtml or .php to name the most common ones.

If the browser does not encounter the index file, it will display the entire directory in the form of a clickable navigation list, disclosing all its contents for the world to see, thus leaving your precious and often restricted content wide open to any type of malicious action.

To prevent this from happening you should make sure that you have at least one or a combination of the 4 following basic security measures in place:

Security measure 1: Ensure that each directory contains an index file by renaming the default page you want to be shown to index. Then make sure that all the internal links to that page are updated as well!

Security measure 2: Create an empty index file. When arriving at the directory, a blank page will be shown, but you will no longer be displaying a directory listing. You could also provide a message and a clickable link on that page to take your visitors to the correct page.

Security measure 3: Create an index file that contains a redirection to the page you want to be shown. There are many free and easily implemented code snippets available that will allow you to do so and your visitors will not even notice that they are being redirected.

Security measure 4: If you have downloadable content that people have to pay for, do not keep it it the same directory as the sales page, but keep it in a separate, secure directory and set up your payment processor to that directory. This way you ensure that only people who have paid for the content have access to it.

When selling products online as an Internet Marketer or otherwise, you are more prone to people trying to get to your restricted content so as to avoid having to pay for it. These 4 basic security measures should help you drastically reduce the risk of unlawful access to your site and save you from a lot of headaches and worries.

Buy domain names to make excellent investment returns

by Jenny Smith

If you are one of the many individuals who have wondered about the future of domain names, and how it might be a viable investment opportunity, you will be surprised as to the amount of potential this area of investment has. Trading domain names is currently a growing industry, and if you get the formula right, you should be able to generate a constant flow of profits.

Due to the fact that each website on the Internet is differentiated and identified by its domain name, the domain market has now become and extremely large and important playing field in Internet commerce today. This is largely because all business done on the Internet is normally linked back to a particular domain name. And if you have a domain name that is well selected, individuals visiting your site will deem it reliable and credible.

With more and more businesses wanting to take their business online, there is now a growing trend of companies trying to secure a domain name that matches their company, brand or product name. This is why you should immediately begin purchasing domain names, especially if you run your own business. Getting a domain name that matches your requirements is of utmost importance, and once it is too late, you might never be able to find a domain name that will ensure you get the reputation your company deserves.

You can also generate profits from domain names, simply by buying as many domain names as you can possibly afford. The reason for doing this, is so you can own as many domain names as possible, with the hope of selling them in future for a sizeable sum of money. You will also find that buying one domain name is relatively inexpensive and cheap, however, once you begin to buy domain names in large numbers, they might cost much more. This method works because more and more companies are beginning to register for a domain name online, and if you own enough domain names, you can be certain that companies will begin to approach you, offering to buy over some of the domain names you own.

Another way to determine the value of a domain name is to check how frequently it is searched for on all major search engines. A lot of companies today, build websites with domain names that are highly searched for on the Internet, thereby meeting the needs of everyone who might be searching for that particular term, with a query in mind. Often, these domain names with high search value can bring in a lot of profits for the individual who owns it, provided he/she is able to give it the necessary exposure.

Some individuals have also used domain names to run affiliate-marketing programs for companies that offer affiliate product sales services. With a good domain name, you can be certain that people will safe when buying from your website, as you create the impression that your website is professionally run, simply because you have a good domain name.

Domain names that are in high demand will also ensure you huge returns, especially when there is a growing number of people who are looking to buy a particular domain name. This is why individuals who are dealing in domain names, often make extremely good returns from reselling domain names.

These are just some of the ways you can make money from domain names. So remember, domain names are extremely important and valuable; do not take them for granted.

3 Traffic Exchange Tips To Make Them Work For You

by John Netyman

Traffic exchanges seem to be everywhere. I always thought they were a waste of time. Basically in my mind how could you get traffic if all everyone did was surf from page to page never actually paying attention to any of the ads. Boy was I wrong.

Here are 3 traffic exchange tips that will make a difference in your traffic if you use them.

1. People actually do pay attention to part of the ad. Usually the title and maybe a couple of sentences or graphics. I know I did. The ads can be quite interesting. You certainly can get ideas for ads of your own. So what does not work. Long sales pages are boring. So are pages that immediately blare out sound or someone’s voice. I am playing music on my computer and will not even let those ads finish. I just leave and go to another page. What does work is landing pages or as they are sometimes called, splash pages. Just a short hard hitting ad with a sign up form to receive a free gift in exchange for your contact info for future follow up. These work great.

2. Surf several traffic exchanges at one time. If you are after credits then you can not wait for one ad to end and the next one to come up. You need to load up 4 or 5 traffic exchanges at a time. Work your way from one to the next until you make it back to the first one. Although this is not as fun as actually reading the ads, if you treat it like a job then your job is to get as many credits as possible and this one way to do it.

3. Read your emails and see which traffic exchanges are running specials. If one has double credits spend most of your time on it. Make the most advantage of your time. 4. Upgrade as soon as you can on your favorite traffic exchanges. This only makes sense. You earn more credits, more impressions, more text link ads, or whatever that exchange offers. When you surf each click can be worth 2 or 3 times as much as well which really makes a difference in your exposure.

Depending on the exchange you can upgrade for anywhere from $5 a month to up to $30 a month. Upgrading is up to you, but I advise it if you can afford it. This is 4 traffic exchange tips that I know work for sure because I have tried it first hand and saw a definite spike in my traffic from it.

3 Things To Know Before You Start Marketing With Safelists

by John Neyman

Safelists offer another way to get your message in front of people for little or no money. If you are willing to spend some time reading email messages you can have the favor returned.

However, marketing with safelists can be a total waste of time if you do not do it right. In this article we will discuss 3 things you should know how to do do before you start safelist marketing.

1. Set up a separate email account with GMail and then use it to receive messages from other marketers. Hotmail and Yahoo offer you to many problems with spam and you will not receive the email messages you want to see.

Why do you want to spend time reading emails? Here is why!

2. Join credit based safelists that reward you for opening your mail. Read the messages to earn credits and in turn create opportunities for your email to be read. The more credits you have the more messages you can send.

Much like traffic exchanges, and other forms of internet marketing, safelist marketing becomes a number game. With credit based safelists even an average ad with an average title will get looked at because your audience is trying to create credits!

This is good for you as long as you have plenty of credits built up. You can spend your money and buy credits or you can spend your time and earn them reading emails if you are working with a credit based stateliest.

Also by looking at the email of others you may learn a thing or two about what make a good heading and a good email message. By paying attention to what catches your eye you will get ideas of your own that will help you get read more as well.

If you believe in sending out good vibes, or you reap what you sew, then reading other people’s emails is the right thing to do if you want yours read. This seems fair and it is.

3. People marketing on Israelites are looking for traffic. Therefore why not market traffic generation products to them. Capture their name and email, and then follow-up with other things you sell. By taking this approach you build a list for future marketing efforts and you accomplish something that will do you good in the future.

Approaching marketing with safelists with these 3 things will make your time and money more well spent.
