The Evidently Rising Popularity Of Facebook

Every day more and more users are logging on to Facebook. Their interest has made it the second largest web site on the internet according to Alex.us, which ranks web sites on the average number of visitors they receive daily along with the average page views per day. Google remains number one but for how long?

Some people speculate that Facebook may outgrow Google, but it is unclear if this will happen since so many factors are involved. What is apparent is that the number of people visiting Facebook has grown steadily over the past few months.

If you consult the graphs on Alexa.us, you will see that the there has been a steady jump in the daily hits for the social media site. By comparison the hits to Google appear to fluctuate between 40 and 44 percent of internet users.

Facebook by contrast, has remained fairly constant in its share of internet users. This leads one to believe that there will eventually be more internet users on Facebook each day compared to Google.

If you’re wondering which site is larger in length of time spent on the site, it’s Facebook. Facebook users spend an average of 31 to 33 minutes each day on the site. Studies have shown that people who use Google spend about 10-14 minutes each day on the site.

This is not that unexpected considering the purpose of each of these web sites. People don’t usually spend much time on a search engine, they just use it to find what they need and go.

Social media sites like Facebook are different. They have special features that are interactive. People can talk to their friends, post blogs and pictures and connect with new people. Some people just stop by to check their messages, while others spend hours on Facebook each day.

For now though, Google remains the number one site on the internet but that may change. Facebook is getting bigger daily and eventually may see number one.

A Useful Marketing Scheme Today

In Internet marketing, the utilization of social media can be a powerful strategy. Such social networks as Facebook and MySpace have already proven themselves as valuable marketing assets. But Twitter, a relatively new social networking website, can also be used in your marketing plan. It may be hard to see at first, but Twitter is actually a very strong marketing resource.

Twitter’s statistics are phenomenal. It gains more and more users every day at exponential rates. It is expected to reach about 15 million by the end of the year. Any website that grows this fast and has such a wide user base can be very valuable in a marketing plan.

You cannot get rich quick using Twitter to market yourself, but it is a sure way to increase your income if you take the time to learn how to use it.

Twitter is a viral website; it takes information on a subject and spreads it like wildfire over the Internet community. People are curious and they want to know what their friends are doing. If someone tweets about something, their friend will pick it up and re-tweet it (if it is interesting) and it’s a snowball effect from there.

Interacting with your followers on Twitter and giving them information and help can familiarize you with your client base. Just be sure to keep your tweets short and sweet.

This can intimidate people and make them reluctant to join you. So make sure your conversation is friendly and easily relatable to a wide range of people. Familiar topics such as pets, movies, music, and family are pretty safe.

This is a good way to get a lot of followers really fast. You are essentially using Twitter to develop good business relationships, like any other marketing plan. The number followers you have indicates how popular you are and, by proxy, how well known your business is.

Don’t try to directly sell yourself on Twitter. People don’t use social networking sites be badgered by sales pitches; it’s important to be sneaky about it and get your word in indirectly. This prevents you from losing a lot of customers.

Indirectly driving traffic to your website through YouTube, blogs, and articles can be explosive ways to expand your network. Good links will be re-tweeted and go viral from there.
